An endangered killer whale, known by the name of “Tahlequah” has got famous for carrying her dead calf on ger head for 17 days in mourning through the Salish Sea off British Columbia in 2018, has given birth again.
Tahlequah is known to the scientists by the name of “J35” and she likely gave birth on Friday after it was spotted on Haro Straight earlier this week.
“Hooray! Her new calf appeared healthy and precocious, swimming vigorously alongside its mother in its second day of free-swimming life.”, said the Centre for Whale Research in the state of Washington.
The state, however, didn’t release the gender of the new calf.
Nutritional Stress is the reason for a large percentage of whale pregnancies failing and a 40% mortality rate for young calves, the centre said.
