Facebook has added a limit to forwarded messages on Messengers to curb the spread of fake news.
Now, the users can forward messages to only 5 contacts or groups on Messenger at a time. If you will try to cross this limit, you will get a pop-up message from Facebook saying “forwarding limit reached.”
Facebook has already enabled this feature in WhatsApp where users can forward messages to only one chat at a time.
Before this, Facebook has rolled out the “Forward” label so that users can differentiate the original and the forwarded messages.

“As a part of our ongoing efforts to provide people with a safer, more private messaging experience, today we’re introducing a forwarding limit on Messenger, so messages can only be forwarded to five people or groups at a time. Limiting forwarding is an effective way to slow the spread of viral misinformation and harmful content that has the potential to cause real-world harm,” Jay Sullivan, Director of Product Management, Messenger Privacy, and Safety, said in a blog post.
The fake news in our country spread like a wild fire. Due to the same reason, many news channels have started programmes to bust the fake videos and messages that got viral on WhatsApp and Facebook.
Let’s see if this feature will help in curbing the spread of fake news or not.
