Indian Premier League (IPL) was delayed this year due to Covid 19 but finally the wait is over and it is starting from today in UAE. The first match will be between the last year’s finalists Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The BCCI has taken up the task of organizing the IPL this time by meeting the UAE Cricket Board.
The match will begin at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi at 7.30 pm Indian time. This will be the first time that players from all over the world will play for the first-time during pandemic. The players are also not familiar with the mood of the pitches there, which seems that this T-Twenty League will be quite exciting this time.
This will be the third time the IPL is being held outside India. Earlier in 2009, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the IPL was organized in South Africa. However, in 2014, the first half of the IPL was also played in the UAE and even then, it had to be done due to the Lok Sabha elections.
It is the 13th season of the IPL and it was postponed till May due to the lock-down on 29 March, but it was postponed indefinitely due to continued lock-down and increasing cases of Covid-19 epidemic.
In today’s first match, the two strongest teams in IPL history, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will face each other. After the BCCI T20 World Cup was postponed, the IPL was cleared and now 56 matches of the IPL will be played in three cities of UAE i.e Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah.
However, the IPL will be played in an empty stadium without spectators due to Covid. Cricket fans will be able to enjoy it on TV. It will also be a new experience for the players, as they are used to play between the crowd of thousands and million cheers.
According to pitch experts, pitches in the UAE are considered slow and helpful to spinners and it is considered to be a batsman’s paradise. The fast bowlers get some help initially, but later the skill of the bowler can get them wickets. It is also hot there. This time Virat Kohli’s Bangalore team is also considered strong, while the teams of Punjab, Delhi are also considered very strong.
