Reliance Jio was, the only telecom operator to have gained 4.5 million mobile subscribers in June. While other telecom companies like Vodafone Idea, BSNL, Airtel reported a loss of subscribers in June. Reliance Jio also increased its wireless market by 37% this year.
Vodafone Idea faced the highest loss of 4.8 million users, BSNL and Airtel lost 1.7 million and 1.2 million users respectively since June.
Urban areas reported a drop from 637.9 million users in May, to 636.8 million users in June.
Amidst all the movement of the migrant workers from urban to rural areas, the latter has reported a drop of users to 523.7 million users in June.
Apart from the movement of migrant works, the reason for the loss in millions of mobile subscribers is the deactivation of sim cards by those owning multiple sims. Closures and unavailability of the recharge shops added to the loss, according to the Analysts.
However, there has been an increase in the Broadband connection increase to 19.8 million.
BSNL gained the highest 7.9 million broadband subscribers, Airtel at 2.5 million, ACT at 1.7 million, and Jio at 1.1 million subscribers in June. Reliance Jio and Airtel are competing at the tariff war to attract customers.
