Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested Umar Khalid, an alumnus of JNU and a member of ‘United Against Hate’ organization, at 12 pm on charges of conspiracy to commit Delhi riots. Khalid is named in several charge sheets of the Delhi riots.
According to the information, the Delhi Police has arrested Khalid’s on the basis of his speech, call records, meetings, and statements of the accused, describing him as a perpetrator. On September 17, the special cell will present a charge sheet regarding the alleged conspiracy in which Khalid’s role is explained. He has been arrested in the case of UAPA.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has filed a supplementary charge sheet against Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal, Gulfafisha Fatima in the FIR in the violence in Zafarabad in which these people have been accused. These people named professor Apurvanand, Yogendra Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, filmmaker Rahul Roy, economist Jayati Ghosh, MLA Matin Ahmed, Amanatullah Khan, Umar Khalid in their statements.
The Delhi Police has not made him an accused in the charge sheet but is investigating his role. However, it is also very interesting here that the signatures of those who have recorded statements in CRPC 161 are not there. However, the Special Cell has not filed any charge sheet so far as to plot the riots. Delhi Police on Saturday denied media reports that the Supplementary Charge sheet had been filed against activists like Yechury, Yogendra Yadav, and others in the Delhi riots case.
Meanwhile, United Against Hate said in a statement on the arrest of Omar Khalid – “After eleven hours of inquiry, Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested Omar Khalid as a conspirator in the Delhi riot case.” The Delhi Police is dragging the protests into a crime category under the guise of investigating the riots. The fight against CAA and UAPA will continue despite all these attempts to intimidate.’
